CRYSTAL SHIP

Set in the beautiful coastal town of Ostend, Belgium and curated by The Crystal Ship, this project brought together participants from Duinhelm, a social service centre that supports folks living with disabilities. We met for 3 days at art centre Briek for a series of workshops exploring mask making as a tool for self understanding, play and connection.

While some participants made a mask that honoured their favourite artist, others made characters where they transformed into a moon in the clouds, an opera singer, or followed their big heart, making a mask about their crush. Each story is unique and absolutely wonderful. I am always so touched by what emerges in these special times together – it’s those memories and the intentional time spent together that create such fulfilment in this process.

Each participant was photographed as their new imagined character in an environment of their choice.
